How Much Does Etsy Take Per Sale? (2026 Fees Explained)

July 20, 2026

Etsy’s fees look small line by line, but they stack up. For most US sellers, Etsy takes roughly 10–15% of each sale before you subtract what your product actually cost you. Here’s exactly where that goes in 2026.

The four fees on every sale

1. Listing fee — $0.20. You pay $0.20 to publish a listing. It lasts four months or until the item sells, and it renews automatically (another $0.20) each time you sell a copy. It’s charged per listing, not per item, so a listing with 10 in stock still costs $0.20 to publish.

2. Transaction fee — 6.5%. Etsy takes 6.5% of the total the buyer pays — and that includes the shipping and gift wrapping you charge, not just the item price. This is the fee sellers most often forget to account for.

3. Payment processing — 3% + $0.25 (US). When the buyer pays, Etsy Payments takes a processing cut. In the US that’s 3% plus 25 cents per order. It varies by country (the UK is 4% + £0.20, for example).

4. Offsite Ads — 15% (only sometimes). If a buyer clicks one of Etsy’s external ads and then buys from you within 30 days, Etsy charges an extra 15% (12% once you’ve passed $10,000 in sales in a year). This fee is capped at $100 per order, and it only applies to ad-driven sales — but for shops under $10k/year, participation is mandatory.

What you actually keep

On a $25 item with $5 shipping, a US seller pays about $3.30 in Etsy fees (listing + transaction + processing, no offsite ad). That’s an effective rate of ~11%. Add a $10 product cost and your profit is around $16.70 — a 56% margin on revenue.

The exact number depends on your price, shipping and whether the sale came through an ad. Rather than guess, plug your numbers into the Etsy Fee & Profit Calculator — it applies all the 2026 rates and shows your real profit and margin.

A few things that trip sellers up

  • Shipping is taxed twice over. You pay the 6.5% transaction fee and processing on the shipping you charge, so “free shipping” baked into the price still gets fee’d.
  • Discounts hit harder than they look. Because most fees are percentages, a 20% off sale can remove 30%+ of your profit. See the Sale & Discount Calculator.
  • Digital products keep more. With no shipping or materials, digital downloads keep ~87–90% after fees. The Digital Product Profit Calculator shows the math.

Bottom line

Budget for Etsy taking 10–15% of a typical sale, more if it comes through Offsite Ads. Build that into your prices from the start so your margin survives contact with the fee schedule.
